Popular pond plants 8/8:

The arrowhead

The arrowhead, or duck potato, is widely spread especially on the North German Plain. It is a lovely addition to all plants with large flowers as the characteristic leaves dominate more than the blossoms do. The arrowhead is an undemanding plant that thrives best in shallow water with the pointed leaves partly under the water and partly floating on the surface. The top of the plant dies back in the cold weather and the rest of the plant over-winters at the bottom of the shallow area. Interesting fact: On sunny days the leaf point is facing North and therefore the arrowhead is classed among the, so-called, compass plants.
